The Parlour Meeting Showing our Designs!

Aubars Pub in Limerick asked our Fashion Design class to design uniforms for their new bar called 'The Parlour' which is inspired by the 1800's look mixed with tweed and converse look, basically - Avril Lavigne meets Downton Abbey. Anyway, heres a few pictures from that day taken by moi.

Me and the fabulous most glamourous woman ever, Rose Griffin, who makes the best cupcakes, mincepies and wholemeal bread in all the land of Irelasnd. She was nervous for the meeting & I was excited!

Also, the college put up their christmas tree today and I thought it would be nice to get a close up showing of my digital photography skills that don't quite exist, but I like the photo.

Here is Katie Murphy, the next Mary Portas, showing her Fashion Designs to the staff of 'The Parlor' - A woman in action!

Here is the rest of the gang nervous and anxious for their meeting with the staff. Kate, Autumn, Avril & Veronica.

Winter weather!

I think this photo is a beautiful example of the weather Ireland can receive in Ireland. It was taken near my hometown Limavady in a place called Downhill at the beach in county Derry. It was taken at 1am when the moonlight hit the clouds and created the warm colours and shadows that we can see in the photo. The person responsible for the photo is Brian Fullerton - " The picture was taken around 1 in the morning . The moon light was so strong that it was throwing the shadows that you see on the wet sand of the beach. Picture is as it came off the memory card of the camera . It has only been converted from RAW format to JPEG - no photoshopping!"

Celeb Gossip!

Katy Perry's been named Billboard Woman Of The Year at their annual event in NYC. Carly Rae Jepsen was also there and she picked up the Rising Star honour, claiming that "dreams can come true." Oh, this is emotional.
Also today, Heidi Klum's held her annual Haloween party (a little bit late, in December) and she decided to dress up as Cleopatra and spend three hours getting crystals stuck on her face. As you do. It's okay though, cause Heidi found time to do some chartiy work and lift some boxes whilst the party was going on.
And finally, everyone's talking about a certain royal baby. K-Middy and Wills have announced they're expecting their first child and loads of celebs have taken to Twitter to express their delight

The Future for Me!!

Really delighted that I came across this course at GMIT in Galway recently. It really sounds like something I;d like to do ratherthan pure fashion design which just wouldn't ever suit me, ever. Atleast with this course I can do postgraduate courses in fashion such as Fashion Buying & Merchandising which is in DIT Dublin. I am excited for the future. Leaving home isn't something I find hard so I'm looking forward to my future and moving out and in to the big world!

Aboriginal Art!

In drawing class we are moving on to learn about Aboriginal Art, its background, famous pieces and famous artists who use this.

Indigenous Australian art (also known as Australian Aboriginal art) is art made by the indigneous people of Australia and in collaborations between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. It includes works in a wide range of media including painting on leaves, wood carving, rock carving, sculpture, ceremonial clothing and sandpainting

Drawing of Me!

In drawing class we have to draw pictures of ourselves using grid reference, and drawing from a picture that was previously taken of us. This was the end drawing of mine, its like the only bit of work I've properly done for that class all year, woops.

Fashion Photography!

This week in Digital Photography class we had to take photos and base them on our course, so I thought it would be a good idea to set up a fashion studio scene with garments in construction. I think it turned out great, obviously didn't change the aperture like my teacher wanted but oh well, I made them my style.

Raffaele Ascione!

Today was amazing to meet Raffaele Ascione, an already-made-it becoming-more-famous fashion designer who currently lives in London, from Italy but studied in my college back in 2003-2005 , Limerick College of Further Education, and learnt from the same tutors I am now. He was inspiring and he really gave me more drive and determination with the fashion industry as I felt like I was going no where with it recently, he even told us that he to this day, even though he's already made it in the industry, still doubts himself. I really learnt alot from him today such as if I really want the full fashion experience I should get myself work experience in any part of the industry with any free time that I have and do interns during the summer just to gain valuable skills and experience. I was totally star struck by him, althought I acted calm. I cant believe that it hasnt taken him long to make it in the industry and hes already worked with Lady Gaga, Jessie J and Florence Welch aswel as being approached by Burberry, Max Mara and even got to work for Pugh and John Rocha.
This evening I went straight home and researched what I have to do to get myself in a position like him, I even found out that St Angelas College, Sligo is starting a new course in September 2012 doing Fashion Design & Business Mananagment which is right up my street. Just gotta work well in my course getting five distinctions and a portfolio by February 1st. Im too excited for my future now, I hope it works out.

Spikes!

I think these black/silver Lita Spike boots are just amazing! These bad boys are pretty lethal! Consider that the disclaimer, the spikes ARE pretty bad ass, but that’s EXACTLY why we love these hugely popular Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Wear these to toughen up a floral dress, or stick with some leather trousers for the overall fierce look!  They are from Folkster and were designed by Jeffery Campbell. They are £169 and are easily bought online.

Trends!

My three trends that I have picked is Leopard Print, Futuristic & Lace. They are based on shops from mostly Middle Market but I tried to also base my trends on Top Market and Mass Market products too.

The Middle Market shops that I found most of my products in were River Island, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Miss Selfridge, Debenhams and Next. Prices here ranged from as low as £15 to anything up to £100. I found that River Island had the best range of clothes to suit my three trends as Leopard Print was found in one huge corner of each store, whilst Lace and the Futuristic trend were basically everywhere to be found within the shop. The River Island stores that were most useful to me were Limerick, Derry and Belfast. Also I was able to make great use of www.riverisland.co.uk for getting information on the exact fabrics and prints being used on the clothes.

The Top Market and Mass Market clothes based on my trend were hard to find. With Top Market I found that the clothes were always top class but still very plain and I prefer clothes with a bit of ‘va-va-voom’ or life about them and I found it hard to find clothes like this online and in store. Also I found that the details on the clothes were quite hidden apart from the price about them which did nothing but stand out to me, but because of the fact that it was hard to find details on them I decided not to use them. With Mass Market I found that at the start of my trends project, it was easy to find clothes and prints based on my trends but before you know it, the market would have moved on within a week and your trends would have completely left the shop apart from the bare minimum of last week’s not-yet sold stock – Penney’s as an example. Also with Mass Market stores, they don’t have a proper online shopping experience with the online store just displaying examples of clothes and trends that are in this season and not actually letting you browse or even pursue to buy the clothes there and then, being told that you would find them in ‘Your Local Store!’

I have based my A/W 2012/13 Trends Report on the Leopard Print Look, Futuristic Look and Lace Look, all mostly from the Middle Market which makes the clothes based on my trends, reasonably priced and good standards of quality of prints, colour and fabrics.

LANA DEL REY!

I got my tickets ordered for Lana Del Rey this morning I'm just so excited, it's on 26 March 2013 in Vicar Street, Dublin. I'm going with my friend alex and we are just too excited. Also Lana is releasing the Paradise Edition of her Born to Die album next Monday so that means more excitement.

Shopping!

I love my new canvas shoes. I know they're plain and there isn't lots of admiration to be found in them, but I think they're brilliant because the colour is neutral and will hopefully match all my outfits, I can't wait to wear them tomorrow. They are £22 from Topman & are part of the new TOPMAN SPORTS CANVAS range. I got £2 of using my student card, typical cheapskate. Also on the same day, I went to see Paranormal Activity 4 which was terrible. Just in case you think it's scary, it's not. Once you've seen the first one, you've basically seen them all.

November blues..

1st of November begins the countdown to Christmas and also to the date which I can begin to open my advent calendar, which I can say that I am definitely not too old for! I was set a few assignments by my college tutors over the Halloween but as usual I left everything to the night before. The one bit of work I did do was take photo's for Digital Photography. Up above is a beautiful picture of a fungus I found. I like it's composition because it is in the middle of the photo and becomes the focus whilst the rest of the photo appears blurred. Definitely shows a sign of winter beginning now.

A picture of me taken by my friend Hannah. I am inside a small house inside my local forest, it was used for defense as it it's based on a hill at the side of the River Roe in the 1700's.

Halloween!

For Halloween i went to Kelly's Lush nightclub , www.kellysportrush.co.uk , but on arrival we were turned at the door because they had just shut them as there was already 2000 people in there. We then went to The Anchor, Portstewart and it was brilliant apart from the fact that I lost everyone at the start of the night and it was a bit too crowded. Good night had by all though!

My mask was just too scary!

Amy's Halloween outfit was a bit glamorous compared to mine! She wore a beautiful cream playsuit, florescent pink heels, a set of devil horns, a vodka in one hand and a pair of sunglasses that she found in the girls toilets! Classy..

College Banter!

On friday I propsed to Avril with this huge ring of hers, unfortunately it got stuck on her finger for ten minutes and wouldn't come of til she used half a gallon of soap. I reckon she secretly wanted Sean from Health & Safety to be her knight in shining armour and help her!

On friday we also got this email from Pat , a college co-ordinator person about the use of liquids in the computer room which is not permitted, in his words. He did say that if we wanted to bring water in, it had to have a sports cap. Danielle wants to know will this do on top of a bottle of water! Just too funny!

Warm Cosy Night's in..

It's actually got so cold lately and the evenings have got darker just so quick. Surely the clock's will have to be put back an hour soon? anyway, tonight is definitely a night for the fire. Soaps, tea and a cosy fire lit. Hopefully get an early night tonight also as I've to be up early for my 6 hour journey to Derry, Northern Ireland tomorrow to stay with my Dad for halloween. Will post up some Northy pics for those of you who have never seen that side of the border. I swear there is no guns, bombs or cars on fire.

BABY JOY!

Last night I was working on the farm and was told that this 9 month old calf was going to have to be washed by me, like a baby, with a sponge and soap. I adopted him as my own. I named him Jeff. I now have adopted a 9 month old calf called Jeff (after my teddy Jeff, the dog). He looks dirty and scruffy here but that was just before he was going to be washed. After washing him and letting him dry, I made him a bed with hay and cleaned all down his pen. After I did this, I let him back into his pen.. he leaped and hopped around like a baby putting his head in the hay and throwing it in the air with his head. It was too cute. This post is to confirm, that I Lee Quigley , has became a father of one at the young age of 18!

AUTUMN HAS COME!

So I was out and about today and I remembered being told to watch out for the 'change of season', and that's exactly what I did! Look at these amazing colourful leaves that I thought represent Autumn wonderfully. I came across them walking into my estate just on the side of the road so they'd basically been through the wars since they've fallen from the tree's. I think they're beautiful and thought I'd share them with you. I also used the first picture as my facebook cover photo.

YOU GO GIRL!

Rebecca Ferguson looks so hot in this picture, taken from the video 'Too good to lose'. I really admire how she worked the dress. It is plain but that helps to let you admire it even more because it is able to flow and seems to match well with many colours, such has her gold jewellary and dark brown locks. Another thing I admire her for is the way she has handled her ex Zayn Malik's nasty comments about their relationship, stating it to be 'a mistake!'. Rebecca came out the mature one as she refused to comment and said her career is more important at the minute. Good for her!

Emeli Sande's supporting acts!

Foy Vance and Duke Special supported Emeli Sande, it was a long wait but all three acts were amazing. You will know Foy Vance from the Denny Ham advert.. 'Home birds sing....'
